This pieced Album block, also called Album Patch, leaves a clear central square for a signature. It is distinct from Baltimore Album appliqué and uses four pieced corner units around the writing space.
Version note: CSV grid 5 changed to 6: the selected traditional Album Patch is a three-by-three arrangement of two-unit sections.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: Cut four small accent squares, eight small background triangles, four large dark triangles, four light squares and the background center from the chart.
Step 2: For each corner, sew two small background triangles to adjacent edges of an accent square, forming a larger pieced triangle.
Step 3: Join that pieced triangle to a large dark triangle along the diagonal. Make four corners measuring 4 1/2".
Step 4: Rotate the corners so their dark halves face outward. Arrange them with the light side squares and background center in three rows, then sew the rows.
Step 5: Join the sections with a consistent 1/4-inch seam, pressing between seams. Check that the unfinished block measures 12 1/2" square.
