Honeymoon Quilt Block

Honeymoon surrounds a plain center with hourglass star points and small pieced corners. The six-grid layout gives each corner two diagonal patches, keeping it distinct from the simpler Ohio Star.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: Subcut the HST parent squares once diagonally as listed in the chart. Sew contrasting triangles along their long edges and square each small unit to 2 1/2", keeping the diagonal centered.
Step 2: Make four corner units from a background square, a light square and two mirrored light/background HSTs. Each corner measures 4 1/2".
Step 3: Make four QST hourglass units from the chart, with dark triangles opposite each other. Trim each to 4 1/2".
Step 4: Arrange the hourglass units with background on the outer edges and toward the center. Add the corner units and central background square, then sew three rows.
Step 5: Join the sections with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, matching the marked intersections. Press and check the unfinished block measures 12 1/2" square.
