Pieced Heart Quilt Block
Also known as Heart
Part of: Quilt Blocks For BeginnersTwo Color Quilt Blocks
Pieced Heart is the stitch-and-flip heart: two squares with small trimmed corners make the rounded top, and one wide rectangle with two large corners makes the point. It has no curves or applique and only three main patches.
Version note: Low confidence: the layout is the widely used connector-corner heart. The Generations Woven Heart page confirms the connector-corner heart construction but draws a different heart, and no single drawing of this exact block was verified.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: Cut two accent squares at 6 1/2", one accent rectangle at 12 1/2" by 6 1/2", four small background corner squares at 2" and two large background corner squares at 6 1/2".
Step 2: Draw a diagonal on each corner square. Sew small squares to the two top corners of each accent square, trim 1/4 inch beyond the line and press out.
Step 3: Sew the large squares to the two bottom corners of the rectangle so the lines meet at the center of its lower edge. Trim and press.
Step 4: Join the two lobe squares side by side, then sew the rectangle below them.
Step 5: Join the rows with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, matching each seam intersection. Press and check the unfinished block measures 12 1/2" square.
