Delectable Mountains uses a stepped sawtooth silhouette to suggest a mountain slope. This square four-column interpretation is assembled from triangles and rectangles rather than slicing and narrowing a large HST.
Version note: Layout caveat: this is a square four-column interpretation. Common strip-reordered and older triangular mountain units are rectangular; there is no single standard square four-grid layout.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: Cut the triangle parent squares in the chart once diagonally. Pair the indicated fabrics, sew along the long edges and press; trim each small HST unit to 3 1/2".
Step 2: For each column, place its HST between the background section above and the dark section below, following the diagram. Omit a rectangle where the HST touches an outside edge.
Step 3: Sew each column separately and check it measures 3 1/2" wide by 12 1/2" tall. Arrange the columns from the highest tip at the left to the lowest at the right.
Step 4: Join the columns without reversing their order. Mirror a second block if you want a paired mountain rather than repeated slopes.
Step 5: Join the sections with a consistent 1/4-inch seam, pressing between seams. Check that the unfinished block measures 12 1/2" square.
