Goose Tracks places four large triangles, each with small toe points, around a background cross with a medium center. This version follows the straight-seam Generations Quilt Patterns construction rather than the diamond version found in older books.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: Cut the QST parents twice diagonally and the large HST parents once. For each toe, sew one medium and one background QST triangle together along a short edge.
Step 2: Sew one toe to the right edge of a background square and the other to its bottom edge, medium triangles toward the square, forming a large pieced triangle.
Step 3: Sew the large medium triangle to the pieced triangle along the long edge. Trim each corner unit to 4 1/2".
Step 4: Lay out three rows: corner units with toes toward the block corners, background rectangles between them and the medium square at the center.
Step 5: Join the rows with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, matching each seam intersection. Press and check the unfinished block measures 10 1/2" square.
