Hidden Star Quilt Block
Part of: Star Quilt BlocksFlying Geese Quilt BlocksHalf Square Triangle Quilt Blocks
Hidden Star scatters dark diamonds around a plain center, with large triangle corners whose points almost meet the diamonds. The light corners next to each diamond suggest a star hidden behind the dark shapes.
Version note: Grid corrected from 3 to 6 to match the reference drawing's smallest patches. The center diamonds are pieced as two flying geese, so there is a seam across each diamond.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: Make the large corner HSTs and square each to 4 1/2".
Step 2: For each side diamond, make one goose with a dark goose triangle and background sky, and one with a dark goose triangle and light sky. Trim each to 4 1/2" by 2 1/2".
Step 3: Sew the geese base to base to form a dark diamond, with the light sky triangles toward the block center. Each side unit measures 4 1/2".
Step 4: Lay out three rows with the dark corner triangles pointing toward the center.
Step 5: Join the rows with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, matching each seam intersection. Press and check the unfinished block measures 12 1/2" square.
