Morning Star has several traditional meanings. This six-grid version frames an Ohio Star-style center with pieced triangular corners rather than repeating the plain-corner Ohio Star.
Version note: Grid corrected from 3 to 6 to represent the smallest patches. Selected the pieced-corner six-grid version; Morning Star is also used for other star designs.

Method
Piecing steps
Step 1: For each corner, sew two small background triangles to adjacent edges of a light square. Join that pieced triangle to one large light triangle, making a 4 1/2" square.
Step 2: Cut the QST parents twice diagonally. Make four hourglass side units with dark triangles opposite one another, background outward and light toward the center.
Step 3: Trim all corner and hourglass units to 4 1/2". Arrange them around the large light center square.
Step 4: Sew three rows, pinning where the star points meet.
Step 5: Join the sections with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, matching the marked intersections. Press and check the unfinished block measures 12 1/2" square.
